Cheddar has found a foster/hospice home!!! We want to thank everyone who donated to his care. We are committed to taking care of him for the time he has left and we are grateful that this time will be spent in a HOME and not a CAGE. Thanks again for your help.
Our amazing team of regular and
part-time volunteers are committed to helping MHS cats find new homes. We could not exist without them! They feed, clean and socialize the cats at PetSmart in Saugus, MA. We have 3 groups - the morning volunteers, the evening volunteers and our weekend people who assist with adoptions. Our foster parents are the BEST. Interested? Contact us and let us know.
MHS takes in cats only. We take injured, unwanted and abandoned cats, get them medically treated, spayed/neutered, then we hold them until we find permanent homes for them. We show cats ready for adoption at PetSmart in Saugus, MA. We have no brick-and-mortar shelter; we use our volunteers homes as foster homes. We are an all volunteer 501(C)3 organization completely dependent on donations. We are always looking for foster homes. Use the CONTACT US button to let us know if you would like to be a foster home.
Veterinarians and their techs
Dr. Dana MacNamee and his staff are a wonderful asset to MHS. Besides the professional care our cats receive, they actively help with adoptions.
All the vets and technicians are so professional and helpful. Our cats receive excellent care!
Melrose Humane Society works with other shelters/rescues in the Northeast area. They take cats from us when we are overloaded and we take cats from them when they need help.
Foster families, supporters and friends
Our fosters do not look like this, but they are every bit as fierce in their care of their charges. Interested in fostering? Under Contact Us there is a foster care form...
MHS is fortunate to have people who donate on a monthly basis. We have some who have named us in their wills. We are so grateful to them. Ocean State and Bissell are companies that support MHS too. You can donate with our PayPal button: just scroll down.
There are MANY people who are kind and willing to help strays. Many feed cats in colonies, rescue kittens and reach out whenever there is a need. MHS tries to help those wonderful rescuers find new homes for their rescues.

Helen came to MHS as a blind kitten...she was born without eyes. How she managed to survive until we found her is a mystery. She was a Guardian Angel cat for many years. Our Guardian Angel program pays for all vet care needed for our 'special' cats; you provide the love and caring.
Cheddar was not well taken care of and when he had a lump on his lip, his owner decided to give him up. Turns out, the lump is cancerous and it means he has only a short time to live. We would like him to have a home and not be kept in a cage for the time he has left. We would pay all medical bills and all you have to supply is a warm home and love.
Elvis - the cat - has been adopted by his foster mom. She fell in love with him BEFORE his eye surgery and could not let him go after. As you can see - Elvis fell in love with the resident dog. We want to thank everyone who contributed to Elvis's eye surgery. You have made his life complete!
Our current fundraiser for Fall 2019 has ended. We will be mailing out tickets and gift certificates this week. Thanks to everyone who contributed to make this a success.
Waldo is really a female cat. Somehow she was named Waldo and the name stuck. She was rescued as a kitten and is shy and reserved. But, she will blossom with love and patience. She has recently found a new home.
Melrose Humane Society works with many people who have lost their beloved cats and are seeking to find a new one. A beloved friend can never be replaced, but it is possible to find a new friend...
Your support and contributions will enable us to help these animals. Melrose Humane is 100% donor supported. We receive no monies from state or federal agencies.
Melrose Humane Society publishes a quarterly newsletter to let our friends know about upcoming events, daily goings on in our foster homes, and some of our special needs cats who need a Guardian Angel.
